about

A guitar track I recorded for JoAnn in Virginia.

Caleb Hines Came up with the chords (although I changed them slightly). They are basically G / Em / Bm / D for verse 1 and 2, Em / B / C / A7 / D / B7 / Em / B / C / A7 / D / B7 / A7 / D / G for chorus 1, a repeat of verse 1 chords for verse 2, and for the bridge (key change) Dsus2 / Bm / C#m / A, then for chorus 2 F#m / C# / D / B7 / E / C#7 / F#m / C# / F#m / C# / D / B7 / E / C#7 / B7 / E / A, verse 3 A / F#m / C#m / E, ending on A.

The guitar parts are all played on my Godin LGX-SA, using the bridge pickup, into my Radial JDV. The pickups on these Godin guitars will yield a lot of nice harmonics when turned up. The 7ths are someone unusual in a metal-sounding guitar part because of the way the harmonics tend to "beat" and sound dissonant, but I used that effect deliberately to fit the mood of the song.

The more I use the Radial box for recording the more impressed I am by the way it makes all my guitar parts sound better.

The processing is all in Logic using Izotope Alloy for EQ on the guitar solo parts. I'm a big fan of Izotope's plug-ins as well.
